When I created this hand-sculpted Fireplace Mantel Decor I wanted to build something that feels completely whole—a true sense of oneness.
This piece requires an immense amount of time, patience, and a multi-layered texturing technique. Each curve and valley of the matching damask texture is built up slowly, layer by layer, directly onto the structural wood panel and coordinating accent bottle. I have to meticulously apply the paint layers, waiting for the foundation to partially dry before hand-detailing the brilliant Flash gold over the top.
The result is a living piece of fine art. The gold possesses a magnificent shimmer that reacts directly to the natural light in your home, beautifully shifting in tone and depth as the sun moves across the room throughout the day.
I believe that true art has no hidden sides. Unlike mass-produced store decor where the back is left completely raw and forgotten, I have fully finished and painted the back of this solid wood panel in the exact same rich, complementing foundation color as the front. From front to back, it is a unified, museum-quality presentation.”
